Well, here we go. Hype is winding down, and everyone is settling into their 'OMG NEW YES' or 'buggy as shit, man' positions. This is an honest encounter of the upgrade with no Bias.
I want to preface this by saying my motive to upgrade. The truth is, I learned that Netflix on Windows 7 (what I had) is only available through browsers, and even on internet explorer or Firefox, the quality was limited to 720p due to Silverlight. Maybe I hadn't updated to the newest IE, but I tested it and I got max 3000bps (FHD is 5800).
So yes, this was fixed. I got a Netflix app in Windows 10, and I can get Super HD (1080p). Along with surround sound. So I am satisfied because that's my #1 excuse to be on my laptop. However, I really want to help windows and Apple (I have a 2010 MB pro too) and really like beta opportunities. I have been twiddling with both Windows 10 and Mac OS X El Capitan for the last couple days.
Here are the issues with Windows 10 in a list:
- Bluetooth is non-functional on my Ideapad z580 (i7 btw)
- Energy Management ate shit (I fixed it though)
- Dolby Theater is gone, but the laptop doesn't sound like it did when it was not there on Windows 10. The sound is.. better.
- On Microsoft Edge, you can't install extensions
- On Microsoft Edge, selecting a search browser requires some steps
And that's it. I don't know anything else that could piss off a rational person. If you have windows 7, at least 4 GB ram, just upgrade now. It's stable, and fast. Much smoother too. Microsoft Edge is a pretty slick browser.
The fix for the Energy Management thing btw is as follows:
- right click windows start icon
- click programs and features
- scroll down to Energy Management
- run uninstaller as change/repair
- go through the steps until finish (no restart)
This got me Energy Management back on Windows 10 64-bit Home with a Lenovo Ideapad z580.
To use google as default search engine in Microsoft Edge, try this:
- first open up Microsoft Edge
- type google.com in address bar
- google something
- click any result
- restart Microsoft edge
- click the 3 dots below X
- click settings
- scroll all the way down and click advanced settings
- you should now be able to select google.com as a search engine
You have to have used the search engine previously, then you can choose it.

Thank you for your time
Update: I found out if you do the Energy Management fix, it can fix your Bluetooth settings. Press Fn + F5 and turn it on there. Then go to your network connections (search for it), and it should be activated.
Update 2: After you do the Energy Management fix, turn on your Bluetooth, go to network connections and you'll see the Bluetooth adapter. Right click it, go to properties, and update the driver for the Bluetooth USB 4.0 one. I was surprised it actually did it. Restart, and you'll have full Bluetooth functionality, but it won't show up under Windows 10 settings. Activate the status bar icon, and you be able to turn it on there.
Update 3: So I've found a bug that actually annoys me. The energy management fix allows me to only Dedust but otherwise, my fan is a no-go. Any help?

Hi everyone,
I updated my operating system to Window 10 from Windows 7 and I am having a ton of problems. I lost a lot of my Lenovo interface options as well...

One of the worst and most annoying problems is that randomly, for half a second, the computer stops and thinks which freezes up my typing. If I am writing something, when it wants to freeze it prevents me from typing that letter. It basically overrides my keyboard well it does that freezing for half a second. Also, when I have a drop down menu it will close when this happens or when I right click, the menu will disappear when this 'glitch' happens. One of the biggest clues I found is under the task manager. In the Processes tab, when this 'glitch' happens 'Windows Problem Reporting' pops up for a half second. I am not sure if that is causing this problem or if something goes wrong and 'Windows Problem Reporting' pops up because of something else?

Is there a way to check and see what these 'Windows Problem Reporting' are?

Also, I can not control my GPU switch anymore. Before the update I could change my GPU from Intel HD card to Geforce 555M. Now I have no idea what GPU I am using and how to go back and forth. Is there a fix for this?

Since all these problems occurred with the Windows 10 update, would it be better for me to go back to Windows 7 and wait to see if Lenovo and Windows ever going to create drives for Lenovo Y570? Is it advisable to switch back W7 and switch back to W10 later?
